Library used books stores rock! I don't go to any other used book stores anymore besides library used book shops except the illiad in Burbank which has an awesome selection of art, graphic novels and animation books! When I go into a used book shop I spend about 45 minutes to an hour and a half going through every book in every section of the store. The sections are under "kids" "fiction" "history" "animals" "Film and TV" "art" "humor" "Religion" "science and nature" "travel" ect. I always skip the fiction section because if I buy a fiction book I will never read it. I don't like reading fiction. I did like reading the fiction books 'CANDY' by Terry Southern and 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck. I like reading non fiction or biographies, something about a subject that happened in real life and listening to the author discuss it like he or she is talking to me telling me about it!
I have shopped at this book shop at least 100 times before in the last 10 years. They have a great selection and because the donations come from very rich people in the upscale neighborhood they get fancy art books in clean condition. They did once have the one book that got away this was the art book of my dreams. I'm a 4th generation jewish American and a second generation Californian. They had a 1970's art book published in french writing with racist cartoons about jews from the 1880s to 1920s made in France. As a jew as part of the culture of our history getting bullied is an unfortunate part of our identity. We have it good in America because of the freedom of speech and religion and civil rights. This book was anti semetic cartoons that would have been published in a french magazine or newspaper at that time. I asked my mom to buy it for me because I was out of town during the half off sale in November. The bookstore wanted $75 dollars for it and it was half off the price that weekend. By the time my mom got to the sale on the second day it was gone and had already been sold!
I must have spent thousands of dollars over the last 10 years at this bookshop! As far as library book shops go this is one of the best that I have come across it is big and welcoming to browse in for a library used book shop.
